If the essay still makes sense once you do a global replace of the school name, you haven't written a good supplemental essay. The sample essay certainly succeeds on this front. If we were to substitute "Kenyon College" for "Oberlin College" in the essay, the essay would not make sense.

Oberlin was a founding member of the Common Application, which is now used by more than 700 colleges and universities. Note that there is a brief supplemental essay which must be submitted as a separate step on the Common App website after your submission of the main application.

An Early Decision application is a binding commitment to enroll if accepted and should be submitted only after careful consideration. In lieu of the standard academic teacher recommendations, we require two recommendations from non-parent adults who can provide a meaningful evaluation of your academic and personal characteristics. Non-parent adults may include private instructors, coaches, religious leaders, mentors, employers, or sponsors of an extracurricular activity.
